We made a trip down to Northern VA again but this time for a very very special reason: to meet our little nephew! He was born only a few days before my birthday and so we made the drive down as soon as we got the chance.
our lovely travel companion
We were a bit worried about driving during Labor Day weekend but as luck would have it, we made it there in good time. And just in time for dinner.

Back-to-school excitement, sweater weather, football season, the beautiful foliage. Fall may just be my favorite time of the year. Fall is the season I met some of my closest friends. It is also when Y and I started dating. The smell of the crisp autumn air brings such nostalgia.
Fall is also when I bring out my jewel-tone, neutral, and dark nail polishes. Here are my fall nail polish picks:

Last week I celebrated my 29th birthday. Truth be told, I was never a fan of my own birthday. Being an August baby, as a wee little one, I felt sad that I didn't get to bring in cupcakes or donuts to school to celebrate with classmates. But as I get older, I have learned to embrace my birthday as a time to reflect on the past year and to anticipate and usher in the new.
It was a wonderful, wonderful day - a day of scavenger hunts, sushi and surprises.
It seemed like a good occasion to embrace florals so I paired floral pants with a simple, crisp, white shirt, my current favorite heels and a gold necklace I bought at a fundraiser.
I tried to make the most of every moment this week - it's my last week before summer break is over and back to school (work) I go. It was filled with rest, snuggles with the animals, three visits to the gym (!!!), birthday celebrations, surprises, laughter, tears, facetime dates with family members in Virginia, Toronto and Korea and lots of warm and fuzzy feelings.
I'm not sure if I feel any different now that I'm 29 but I do have a feeling this year is going to be a good one. I will make sure of it.
This weekend we are attending friends' wedding and having (yet another) BBQ - but it's going to be an epic one.
Here's to the weekend! Cheers!
The coolest sushi birthday card. My husband knows me so well.
An amazingly delicious sushi birthday dinner. The sushi chef laughed when Y gave me my birthday card (shown above) during dinner.
